AngelMed Scapulothoracic Shoulder Brace

A unique patent protected and award-winning medical breakthrough brace. Using specially developed breathable, hypoallergenic, non-sweat fabrics offers comfort, and (where needed), continuous long-term wear.

Championed by top surgeons and a trusted market leader for

  • Wrong muscle patterning, abnormal scapular motion or scapulothoracic abnormal motion (STAM) i.e. Scapular Dyskinesis, (commonly known as winging shoulder blades and shoulder malfunction).
  • All severity of closed clavicle fracture (a broken collarbone that hasn't broken through surface skin).
  • Improved body posture, dramatic improvement in sports performance.
  • Reducing recovery time after strenious exercise (DOMS).
  • Scapula syndrome (also called scapulocostal syndrome)
  • Acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation grade 1-3 when used within the 10 day inflammatory window.
  • Injury recovery and rehabilitation
  • Management of hyper mobility conditions.
  • Scoliosis and the management of degerative shoulder and spinal conditions including arthritis.
  • Post cortisone and botox directional procedures - ensuring successful muscle repatterning (available on NHS through surgical budget).
  • Aiding rehabilitation and improving recovery time after shoulder and spinal surgery.
  • An effective solution where surgery is contra-indicated.

How it works

Bracing components have been disguised within a gilet style waistcoat thereby eliminating any stigma attached to wearing a brace.

Shoulder blades (scapulae) are held to the chest wall and the torso is realigned.  This triggers a musculoskeletal reset and stimulates essential biofeedback for better proprioception and neuromuscular control - in other words - improves the brain-body connection with your shoulders for a better understanding of how, 'good posture', should feel.

Body symmetry is instantly transformed. Strength to the shoulders and range of arm movement is restored. Neck stiffness, pelvic and lower back pain resolved.

Once re-patterning and new muscle memory has become established the brace need only be worn intermittently, thereby, eliminating any risk of dependency on bracing.

Specially developed highly breathable fabrics contribute to it's wearability preventing overheating, and where prescribed, continuous long-term wear.

Components have been cleverly and discreetly integrated throughout the gilet.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

Made using light breathable technical fabrics, exclusive to Angel Med.
A figure of eight style shoulder retraction system is descreetly hidden within a gilet style waistcoat.
High resistance padding at the front of each shoulder protects nerves and blood supply to the arms when tensioning.
Specially designed scapula pressure pads over each shoulder blade.
Strategically placed splinting has been sewn into front panels, spine and shoulder blade areas.
Cut-away design allows forward arm movement
Does not pinch or cut up at the underarms, or compromise blood flow to the arms, or place pressure on underlying nerves.
Integrated webbing tightens creating an equal and opposite force for lifting the diaphragm, drawing back the shoulders and controlling the shoulder blades.
Splinting at either side of the spine supports spinal structures.
An internal stretch belt keeps the gilet in place when tension is applied at the shoulders.
Stretch side panels accommodate both the male and female body shape.
Wide stretch hip pulls fasten forward over the hips to stabilise the pelvis.
Machine washable at 30 or 40C, simply pop in a laundry bag to avoid hook receptive elements tearing at other items

Meet our champions

Professor Angus Wallace FRCS and Mr Ian Bayley FRCS. Both were instrumental in developing the brace and are two of the famous four who established shoulder surgery as we know it in Britain today.

What is Scapulothoracic abnormal motion?

Scapulothoracic abnormal motion (STAM) is a group of scapular conditions, including scapular dyskinesis and medial or lateral scapular winging, that can lead to chronic pain, weakness, limited motion, and deformity.

Why is good posture so difficult to achieve?

Modern living persistently contributes to bad posture and subsequently reduces muscle memory and our ability to hold ourselves upright. This creates an imbalance and places pressure on some muscles making them work harder than their intended use. The result can mean pain and shoulder malfunction.

It may be surprising to learn that our shoulder blades (Sacpulae) dictate the position of our shoulders and responsible for arm strength and range of movement.

Wearing the Thoracic brace helps in establishing good overall body posture thereby overcoming chronic, often debilitating shoulder, pelvic and lowerback conditions.

COPD sufferers can also benefit from wearing the brace by helping lift and expand the diaphragm making breathing easier and reducing steroid puffer use.
