Thoracic Muscle Trainer Brace

This breakthrough award-winning full torso brace is a unique innovation and trusted frontline treatment for Scapulothoracic Abnormal Motion (STAM or wrong muscle patterning, Scapular Dyskinesis commonly known as winging shoulder blades), Acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation and all severity of Closed Clavicle Fracture (a broken collarbone that hasn't broken through surface skin).

This powerful and patent protected brace, with working components cleverly disguised within a gilet style jacket, is designed to reset wrong muscle patterning, both actually and by providing the wearer with biofeedback. The result; improvement in neuromuscular control and musculoskeletal alignment instantly transforming body symmetry, shoulder position, strength and range of arm movement.

With dramatically improved posture any neck stiffness andlower back pain is relieved and often eliminated altogether.

Once muscle memory and re-patterning has been established the brace may be worn intermittently thereby eliminating any risk of dependency.

What is Scapulothoracic abnormal motion?

Scapulothoracic abnormal motion (STAM) is a group of scapular conditions, including scapular dyskinesis and medial or lateral scapular winging, that can lead to chronic pain, weakness, limited motion, and deformity.

Meet our champions

Professor Angus Wallace FRCS and Mr Ian Bayley FRCS. Both were instrumental in developing the brace and are two of the famous four who established shoulder surgery as we know it in Britain today.

KEY POINTS

Successfully treats Scapular Dyskinesis (winging shoulder blade(s), Acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation, all closed clavicle (collarbone) fractures including those normally surgically plated, skeletal deformity and many other injuries and conditions of the torso.
Accredited by leading consultants and practitioners.
Stimulates essential bio-feedback for better proprioception and neuromuscular control i.e. a better brain-body connection and knowing where your shoulders are together with an understanding of how 'good posture' should feel.
Suitable for continious and extended wear thanks to the use of specially developed breathable fabrics.
Powerful components fix and hold shoulder blades (scapulae) down to the chest wall delivering better shoulder function, stability and strength.
Improves musculoskeletal alignment improving body symmetry balance, strength, nerve and blood flow.
Lifts the diaphragm up and away from pelvic activity, improving posture and easing strain in the lower back.
Allows freedom of movement, including arms reaching forwards upwards and backwards. Does not cut-up at the underarms or restrict blood supply to the arms or cause pressure on nerves.
An important posture correction device for use in the office, driving, and when lifting and twisting the torso.
Can be worn to improve performance during sports activities and gym training sessions. Used by athletes for muscle correction and after competitions to improve recovery time.
Proven as an important adjunct to rehabilitation therapy, as a post-surgery safeguard, and as an effective solution where surgery is contra-indicated.

How it works

The close-fit gilet waistcoat style design hugs the contours of the body and follows musculoskeletal structures like a second skin.

Specially developed highly breathable fabrics provide comfort and prevent overheating making long term, continuous wear possible whenever needed.

Components have been cleverly and discreetly integrated throughout the gilet.

  • A figure of eight style shoulder retraction system draws the shoulders back.
  • Cut-away design allows forward arm movement.
  • Special high resistance foam padding at the front of each shoulder protects nerves and blood supply to the arms.
  • Strategically placed splinting, sewn into the front panels, attach to finger-like splints over the shoulder blades (scapulae). When the straps, located under either arm, are tightened an equal and opposite force is created lifting both the diaphragm, and locking down the shoulder blades to the chest wall.
  • Splinting to either side of the spine supports spinal structures.
  • An internal stretch belt holds the gilet in place when traction is placed on the shoulders.
  • Wide stretch external hip pulls fasten forward to stabilise the pelvis.

Why is good posture so difficult to achieve?

Modern living persistently contributes to bad posture and subsequently reduces muscle memory and our ability to hold ourselves upright. This creates an imbalance and places pressure on some muscles making them work harder than intended. The result can mean pain and shoulder malfunction.

It may be surprising to learn that our shoulder blades (Sacpulae) dictate the position of our shoulders and responsible for arm strength and range of movement.

Wearing the Thoracic brace helps in establishing good overall body posture thereby overcoming chronic, often debilitating shoulder, pelvic and lowerback conditions.

COPD sufferers can also benefit from wearing the brace by helping lift and expand the diaphragm making breathing easier and reducing steroid puffer use.
