The AngelMed Clavicular Gilet Vest is designed to relieve pain and support the shoulders in the best possible position for healing a broken collarbone.

Within twenty minutes of wearing the vest, spasming in the shoulder girdle muscles dissipates. Pain reduces and often disappears altogether. Healing time is accelerated, and the risk of non and mal-union greatly reduces, resulting in a faster return to normality and sport. With shoulders fully supported, independence is maintained as you go through the healing process.

Shoulder consultant Mr Ian Bayley FRCS, Circle Clementine Churchill Hospital and 75 Harley Street commented, "the clavicular gilet is an exciting innovation and we're seeing really good results using it".

WHAT IS A BROKEN COLLARBONE?

Concerned that an arm sling isn't providing enough support after breaking your collarbone?  You are right to be, a sling only supports the weight of the arm and does nothing to support the shoulder, and represents random conservative care.

CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING A COLLARBONE FRACTURE

Ten years of working with icons of the shoulder world helped bring about the development of this vest. Our studies prove that it can, under specialist care, offer outcomes equal to surgery.

Using a vest design offers a more comfortable and secure way of applying constant support to the shoulders.

  • Quickly secures the upper body, holding the shoulders in the best position for healing without bearing down on nerves, cutting in at the underarms, or interfering with blood supply to the arms.

  • Prevents rotation at the fracture site avoiding malunion (bad joining of the two broken ends).

  • STOPS EXCRUCIATING PAIN.

* Can also be used to support an injured shoulder blade [Scapula] and where applicable, reduce the pain of broken ribs.

The gilet has resolved the problems of the traditionally prescribed 'figure of eight splint'. A Canadian study found that the splint pressed down on the fracture and placed pressure on underlying nerves. Neither did it prevent rotation at the fracture site. Furthermore, it cuts up at the underarms restricting blood flow and causing tingling down the arms. It also moves to place pressure on the back of the neck and is uncomfortable to wear.

The principle of drawing the shoulders back to support a broken clavicle out to length is correct however, this particular design does not achieve this in a satisfactory way.

WHY USE A GILET DESIGN?

  • Adopting a gilet design has overcome the problems of the Figure of Eight Splint.

  • Removes any perceived stigma of wearing a brace.

  • Airflow breathable fabrics technology has made continuous wear more comfortable.

Big benefits of getting back to sports sooner

As a further accelerator for return to sport a specially designed arm gaiter can be added at three weeks. This protects the shoulder against extremes of movement likely to disrupt the healing process and is the brainchild of surgeon MR IAN BAYLEY
